Where do I start..... Howe school kindergarten thru HS and beyond. Unfortunitely I left Pgh, in 84 and never had the chance to sit and reminice with Smiley. In those years I believe I know him better than anyone else except his brother Dave. We grew up together and shared our youthful ignorance and good times. We spent hours learning and playing the guitar, he had the bigger amp so we played at his house. I do remember double dating with Smiley as we both dated girls who were best friends. He would wash only the passenger side of his car so it would look clean for Karen. As everyone knows being born in 1948 made it easy to change our draft card to show 1946,. We did this and had our first beer at Tilly's bar in Castle Shannon. Anyone remember driving to WVA and drinking 3.2 beer then driving back home before midnight because we had Cinderella license. We did many times. We did Senior Day together and the asst principle didn't want to put Smiley on his vest!!! He got his nickname in grade school, I don't think very many people really know the story, the Howe group does I'm sure. I visted him at Youngstown State, a very intersting place in the 60's and he was alwys welcome at my fraternity at PSU again, many times. As I now write this many more times come to mind after collage with other Howe friends some now passed and the other Howe Dirts! I know this sounds like two crazy guys and we were, along with others and it is not meant to disparidge or tarnish his memory at all. But it was him and he was a great great friend.
RIP Smiley, your friend Bob Anderson

In addition to Andy Andersons comments, yes the days of West Virginia, a particular bar reference would be Gebharts on the old RT 40 before I79 was finished. Eating cheese waffies and drinking the 3.2 beer we tried the Colt 45 as rumors were it was 5%. Smiley lived on my street Old Farm a great guy also an attendee to the IVY INN (RIP to that establishment now) how many braincells from the entire MT Lebanon population were destroyed there. RIP Smiley

I was also one of the Howe School clan before we became members of the class of '66. Many fond memories began there in the class room and especially on the ballfield. There will be quite a reunuion again oneday so we can recall those fun times of our youth once more. R I P to another member of our treasured alumni. - Dennis K E Pittman

I too, knew him from our youngest days at Howe School. He was usually the funniest guy in any group. I haven't kept up with much of Mt. Lebanon folks since I left for college. Sorry to hear of his passing. He was a good guy.
