KIRK ALLEN THOMPSON       MAY 10, 1948 --  FALL - 2021

I received a note from Sandi Solomon, Administrator for a Class of 67, that "Kirk passed away in his sleep a few weeks ago (late Augt early September). - supposedly he had cancer".  She didn't know much more about him other than he lived in Puerto Rico.

I assume he still lived in Puerto Rico...he planned to come to the 50th but there was a hurricane or something and he could not get off the island.   If anyone knows more, let us know to add to this posting.

May he R.I.P.

I just noted the posting on Kirk's passing.  His mother lived just down the street from my mother on Sunnyhill in Mt. Lebanon.  I always enjoyed the few contacts that I had with him over the years.  I am so saddened by his passing.  I wish he had been able to join us at the 50th.  Rest in peace, my friend.

Kirk and I were friends in high school. I'm saddened by the news of his passing. May his memory always be for a blessing.

I too am saddened by Kirk's passing. We went to Howe school together before he moved to Theodan drive off of Banksfill Road. We used to walk home for lunch alternating days at his house and mine. As an only child he had really great toys like slot car racers. After he moved I didn't see much of him until high school where his "radio announcer voice" and ability to speak well about most anything made him a personality. After graduation he went into the Navy. When he was discharged in California he stopped by to see me on his way to Lemon Grove,CA. For another long spell I didn't hear from him and then reconnected through this website. I looked forward to his attendance at the 50th reunion but he couldn't make it. Then in April a few years ago our Rotary club had a trip to Puerto Rico on a hurricane relief project and Kirk came to meet us in San Juan. I almost didn't recognize him as he was thin with gray beard. He said his home in the mountains was without electricity for 453 days, but he managed with a generator. He said he was frequently in San Juan for medical treatment for cancer and he was thankful for the best and latest drugs that had already extended his life. He said he was okay with dying and that life had been good. May my friend Kirk Rest In Peace. He was a good man.

What a kind man with an engaging smile.  I honor his service and persistence, and I wish he had been able to join us 5 years ago for the 50th.   May we all treasure our memories of him.

Kirk and I had know each other from Howe School, Mellon, and High School.  We lost touch after hgih school but I remember bumping into him in 1970 at a seafood restaraunt in Homestead Florida.  I was in my last year in the Marines before being discharged and returning to the University of Pittsburgh.  He was with Bruce Lammert, both had on their 'squid' Navy uniforms on.  I rember sitting with fellas at one table but kept looking over at their table from time to time.  I finally got up and approached them we exchanged alot of tales following our high school days.

Kirk and Bruce were in the Navy currently stationed in Key West.  I told them a tiny bit of my work (I was a crypto-linguist at part of the Naval Security Group), but that was the extent of what I could say at the time.  When they mentioned the subs in Key West I said: 'Boy am I glad you told me'.  For some un-godly reason my superiors at Homestead AFB were in the process of directing 3 of us spanish linguists to 3-month rotations aboard (can you guess?) submarines out of Key West.  I was kind of in shock.  Then I was told about some of  the subs being converted WWII subs.  When I got back to Homestead AFB I approached my Captain and told him there was no way you were going to force me to 'tool' around Cuba underwater in a WWII sub.  I had claustrophobia, plus I was being dischared a couple months short of my 4-year anniversay

Thank god that didn't occur.   Kirk and I have conversed off and on over the past 20 years, but I've never had the chance to visit him in Puerto Rica.  Semper Fi my friend.
