IN MEMORY

Elizabeth Eve Hyzer (Piette)

Elizabeth Eve Hyzer (Piette)

Pastor Elizabeth "Betsy" Piette

August 17, 1948 ~ May 21, 2017 (age 68)

Elizabeth Eve Hyzer Piette, lovingly known as Pastor Betsy, Betsy and Mom, was born August 17th, 1948. She left this world peacefully in her sleep while "knitting", "writing" and "dreaming of squirrels" appropriately on Sunday morning, May 21, 2017 after a 25 year long scrimmage with breast cancer. She is now at peace and most likely verifying with God that chocolate is part of the food pyramid. Betsy was a woman of faith, compassion, knowledge, humor, hugs that fixed everything, and a mean hamburger slop slop. She cared deeply for her 3 younger siblings and would have done anything for them. Years ago, she gave bone marrow to her younger brother in the hope of saving his life. She had 6 children of her own whom she loved unconditionally and wished only that they were happy. She cried with joy when each of her 7 grandchildren were born and cherished every moment with them. She also became a mother to the Parkersburg community in the aftermath of the tornado of 2008. Like a shepherd to her flock, her concern for the well-being of others in the community highlighted her selflessness. Please don't consider this obituary the end of Betsy's life, but a continuation of her life in our own hearts. Hearts that accept change, forgive all, have an insatiable desire to explore the world and above all, do anything possible to make sure their family is happy. Betsy enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, shopping at Von Mour, sewing, arts & crafts festivals, "The Lion in Winter" and "Finding Nemo", playing games, learning the word of God, and singing. Her beautiful voice and random outbursts of show tunes will continue to echo in our minds. Let us all celebrate her life with song, laughs and stories. If you can, wear a little splash of "puw-pul" this weekend, for it was Betsy's and little Anna's favorite color. Visitation on Friday evening, June 2, from 5-7pm at Hoof Funeral Home, 312 N Park St, Reedsburg WI 53959. (608)524-2337. Memorial Service on Saturday, June 3, at 11 am. Reedsburg United Methodist Church, 833 3rd St, Reedsburg WI 53959. (608)524-3913. Followed by a noon luncheon at Reedsburg UMC hosted by the United Methodist Women. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the team that helped her through the 2008 Parkersburg tornado: United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) www.umcor.org Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Donald V. and Patricia (Whitney) Hyzer, brother Mark Hyzer, grandson Arthur Martin, and daughter Rebecca Piette. They are all currently enjoying a jar of herring with cream sauce and buttery crackers while playing Scrabble. Her children are now in charge of her book collection and deck of 80's UNO cards: Michael Piette and Robert Crandall, Adam and Pamela Piette, Sally Piette, Owen and Emily Diane Piette, Emily Jane and Andrew Koppenhaver. Her grandchildren are in charge of finding the buried box of gold, gems and rubies: Brittan, Gwen, Greta, Mason, Anna, Cora, and Ross. And last but not least, her siblings have inherited a ton of fabric: brother Cornelius and His wife Nona Hyzer, sister-in-law Susan Hyzer, sister Phyllis Smith and her boyfriend Fred Salzmann. The family would like to sincerely thank the Sivola family for sheltering her after the 2008 Parkersburg, Iowa tornado, Kylene Luschinger for taking her to doctors' appointments and making her laugh, her very dear friends in Iowa and Wisconsin, her best friend Elaine Phillips, her brother and sister for taking such good care of her, the Agrace Hospice program, the staff at Our House-Reedsburg (you make incredible banana bread), Brightstar, and Nestle. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
